"My paintings are about beauty, a certain melancholic beauty seen at the edges of the mundane." - Kim Dorland.

Kim Dorland's paintings are psychologically and stylistically unexpected. His fascination with combining opposing elements reveals a sense of beauty found in the 'letdowns' of everyday realism. The landscapes depicted in Dorland's paintings are in constant flux between two modes - abstraction and representation. These works are about contradictions, and those dull moments that make up so much of the day, and the question of what is possible with paint, brush, stretcher and canvas.

Kim Dorland graduated with a BFA from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, and an MFA from York University, Toronto. He has exhibited extensively throughout North America, internationally and at multiple Art Fairs including Art LA 2006 where he was a featured artist. Dorland has been awarded numerous grants throughout his career. Kim Dorland currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario.
