Alexander Caldwell's sculptures are considered and balanced responses to both materials and environment. In association with minimalism, Caldwell is often committed to the materials remaining what they are. Caldwell allows materials such as aluminum, steel, bronze and cast glass to inform his work. Responding to both nature and the urban landscape Caldwell, strips away the excess to reveal the purity of form. Known for his precision, craftsmanship, and ability to combine and/or transform materials into extraordinary objects Caldwell has built his practice on the perfection of technique. For over 20 years Caldwell has built his own state of the art fabrication studio and bronze foundry, which encompasses a 5000 square foot warehouse. It is here that Caldwell bucks the trends of outsourcing and creates each sculpture himself. Alexander Caldwell graduated from the Alberta College of Art & Design in 1985. His scale of work varies impressively and has resulted in commissions and acquisitions by noted clients Disney Tokyo, W Hotels Korea, Smed International, and Honda West. Alexander Caldwell lives and works in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
